Social Media Policy of ASA

Amherst Soccer Association Social Media Policy and Expectations

Social media is ever present in our society and we recognize our athletes’, families’ and coaches’ freedom to engage and express themselves as they choose.  However, participating in our soccer athletics program is a privilege and we expect our athletes, families, and coaches to portray themselves, their teammates, and our organization in a positive way at all times.

Please remember the following:

· Everything you post is public.  Once you put in out into the social media world, it is always there.  You can’t control how it is viewed or used once it is public.

· What you post can affect your future!  Friends, family, colleges, and future employers can view your social media.  Think not only of yourself now, but your future self.

Social media should be fun and a way to communicate about our club.  We encourage you to promote our club.  Share your team successes, post your triumphs, like, share and retweet the club’s posts.  We are excited for our athletes and want to share in your stories.

However, we also hold you accountable as a representative of our club.  Amherst Soccer Association will not tolerate derogatory statements or behavior, such as disrespectful language towards teammates or opposing teams, bullying, hazing, or sexual harassment.  There will be disciplinary actions deemed appropriate by the board for any ASA athlete, family member, or coach that does not follow these policies or expectations.  Concerns can be reported to the ASA Board by emailing president@amherstsoccer.com.  Reports will be kept confidential to the extent possible.

In short, all of our actions have consequences, both positive and negative.  Please use social media wisely.  Protect yourself by maintaining a self-image that you will be proud of, now and in the future.
