AMHERST SOCCER ASSOCIATION NAMES BRENDAN MURPHY DIRECTOR OF COACHING

After an exhaustive, six-month national and international search, Amherst Soccer Association is pleased to announce that Mr. Brendan Murphy has been named Director of Coaching for the Association.

Murphy brings a long and rich soccer history to Amherst Soccer as both a player and a coach.  Murphy was starting goalkeeper for the undefeated 1999 St. Lawrence University NCAA Division III National Championship team.  He holds the school record for winning percentage as a starting goalkeeper, most shutouts in a season, and lowest goals against average for a career.  Upon graduation in 2002, he trained with several professional teams in England before playing professional soccer in Michigan and Ohio for two years.

He is currently the Assistant/Goalkeeper Coach for NCAA Division I Niagara University. He holds a United States Soccer Federation National B license. Murphy is a member of the New York State West Olympic Development Program coaching staff and currently works with the 1994 boys team.

Murphy has graduate training in early childhood education and has been a full time English teacher in middle school and high school at The Park School of Buffalo for the past 2 years.

Murphy has significant experience and commitment to youth soccer and education at many levels.  For the past 2 and a half years he has served as the Director of Coaching for Orchard Park Soccer Club and helped grow the Orchard Park soccer camp from 0 to almost 200 participants.  This winter, Murphy directed the under 6 program at Amherst Soccer Association.

Murphy is a homegrown product of the ASA himself, having played on travel teams since the age of 10.  He has coached in ASA for the past 6 years, currently with the U14 girls Amherst Revolution, the under-6 program, goalkeeper training programs, and other activities.

Murphy has a passion and love for soccer that he communicates to children in creative and enthusiastic ways.  “Soccer is a vehicle for teaching kids about life.” Murphy says.  “It can connect cultures and unite peoples across the globe.  It is through these connections that true understanding of differences and real empathy for others can be brought to life.  Through soccer, I have had the opportunity to work with players, coaches and people from every inch of the globe.  Soccer is truly the World’s game and my greatest wish is to share the joy and love that I have for this game with coaches and players of all levels.  I hope to contribute something positive to the rich history and exciting future of the Amherst Soccer Association.”
