The Boston Breakers and the Washington Freedom, who were both in the old women’s soccer league known as the WUSA, will be in a new league called Women’s Professional Soccer. The new league’s website can be found here along with the league logo. Other teams set to start play are the current W-League Jersey Sky Blue and unnamed teams in Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles and Dallas. Other franchises will either be in Atlanta, Philly, San Jose, San Diego or Rochester. Rochester seems to be a long shot at best.
Take a look at the WPS website for some player profiles, including Women’s US National team player and Rochester native Abby Wambach. They are also running a contest to win four tickets to the inaugural game.
Can’t you just imagine Coach Marty roaming the sideline with words of encouragement for the expansion Buffalo Fusion. Since that won’t happen until around 2018 though we’ll have to settle for the 2008 U-12 championship at Epic. You gotta dream!!
